If you enjoyed the well-acclaimed Wordscapes, PeopleFun recently came up with another equally addictive puzzle game. Blockscapes is generally the PeopleFun’s take on the classic block puzzle game. Unlike the typical block puzzle, however, Blockscapes comes with a great number of unique puzzle elements that you will surely enjoy. The goal is simple, get the highest score possible by clearing as many tiles as you can. Simply drag and drop the puzzle pieces on the board and try to form and clear as many lines as you possibly can. The game also gives you a chance to explore a great number of stunning wallpapers or themes.

The Gameplay

Like any block puzzle game, Blockscapes comes with a very simple set of mechanics. To get started, simply download the Blockscapes app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. As soon as the game begins, it will prompt you to an 8×8 grid. Under the board is a separate panel that is composed of three randomly generated puzzle pieces. The goal is to form lines by dragging and dropping the puzzle pieces on the empty board. Try to establish the most effective strategy and try to make combos to earn higher scores.

Since the board is too small, players must visualize the puzzle carefully and make sure to lend enough space for bigger puzzle pieces (especially the 3×3 tile). Take note that if you run out of space, the game will come to a quick end and you have no other option but to start back from the very beginning.

Purchasable Powerups

One of the most unique elements of Blockscapes is the presence of consumable powerups. Currently, the game offers two useful powerups. The first one is the ability to rotate tiles and the other second one is the Magnet. Initially, the game will provide you with free sets of powerups as soon as you unlock them but once you have consumed them all, you can only obtain them by purchasing them using the virtual currency. Players will earn gold coins every time they reach a new level. These coins can be used to buy powerups.

The Rotate ability will cost you 50 Coins while Magnet is worth 300. Magnet gives you the ability to pull all the puzzle pieces on the bottom-most part of the board, leaving no empty spaces in between. Players can also earn free coins by watching reward videos. Each video often grants 25 free coins.

Events, Themes, and Leaderboard

Aside from the main campaign, Blockscapes also features special events. These events will highlight special campaigns that are often more challenging. What really separates Blockscapes from the common block puzzle games is the customizable themes. Every time the player earns a new level, they will also get a chance to unlock a new theme. Each level features a high-definition image showcasing stunning nature-inspired places. You are free to switch from one theme to another as long as they are already unlocked.

Players can also edit their profile, input their preferred nickname and select their preferred profile picture. Above all, Blockscapes comes with its own Leaderboard system. It means that you no longer need to connect the game to your existing Google Play Center account. The leaderboard allows you to compete against other online players. The score charts will display the top players on your location, worldwide, and friends (if the game is connected to your Facebook account). Blockscapes also records your All-Time best, Last month and Current Month progresses that provide this game a decent replay value.

Blockscapes is indeed a great block puzzle game. It provides a nostalgic block puzzle experience while successfully incorporating a modern touch to it. It is an excellent time killer, an effective brain trainer, and also a relaxing puzzle to put you in the right mood. Appearance-wise, Blockscapes is an absolute visual delight. It provides you with visually stunning themes and is adorned with rustic-inspired puzzle pieces. Not to mention the unlockable themes that highlight beautiful imagery that is complemented with a relaxing piece of music and audio effect.
